To Count Calories Or Points?

While I was teaching a class on keyword research for weight loss blogs this evening we explored new trending keywords in the root phrase weight loss which revealed that the key phrase “points plus calculator” was now the breakout key phrase. Just two days ago the key phrase “snooki weight loss” was at the top of the mountain.

So why the change? Apparently the phrase points plus calculator is being searched in high volume by people who are either active in Weight Watchers or are looking to join Weight Watchers.

It just so happens that my mother is a member, long time standing, in Weight Watchers so I do have a bit of insight as to what this is all about. Weight Watchers is based on point system that gives each individual “x” amount of points daily for food consumption. If they stay within their points range they lose weight. Sound familiar?

It turns out that counting calories will do the exact same thing for you without the cost of a monthly membership in Weight Watchers (sorry Mom!) Not that I have anything against Weight Watchers, because I don’t, but in today’s economy does it really make sense to spend money where we don’t really need to?

If you visit LiveStrong.com you will find a free calorie calculator which will allow you to determine how many calories you burn, everyday, based on your current height, weight and age. To find your base score just add your height, weight and age, then select maintain current weight and sedentary. This will tell you how many calories per day your body is currently burning.

To lose weight you must burn more calories than you consume. So if your base calorie intake is 2000, for example, then you would want to reduce that number by 300 to 500 calories per day to lose weight.

So why the need for two different systems of calculation. Yes, Weight Watchers Points Plus Calculator may me more convenient and probably a bit easier, but figuring out the numbers to lose weight using a calorie calculator is not hard. I was just able to show you how to do it in less than two paragraphs of content and it didn’t cost you a dime.

The upside of Weight Watchers is the social connection and relation to people in a live environment where they share the same mission and journey. Weight Watchers offers incredible support and it might just be a good fit for you if that is what you are looking for.

However, if you are looking to lose weight on a budget then here’s a simple formula that should work very well.

First, make it a point to get out of bed and run, jog or at least walk for a half an hour everyday. This will start the calorie burning process by putting you in deficit. Your body burns fat easily, in the morning, when you work out on an empty stomach. Working out on an empty stomach leaves your body no other choice but to burn fat. Getting up and going for a walk, jog or run in the morning doesn’t need to cost any money either, if you can run in your neighborhood.

Second, if you are struggling with excessive appetite then a dietary change is needed. One of the best ways to curb your appetite naturally is to increase your intake of fruit and vegetables. If you aren’t a huge fan of vegetables then supplements like Skinny Fiber by Skinny Body Care are a great, healthy, natural alternative.

Third, if you are coffee drinker and want to turbo charge your morning workout then Xyng might be right for you.  If you choose to use Xyng then you may want to reduce your coffee intake. Xyng is also an appetite suppressant and mood enhancer as well as a fat burner. I recommend Xyng first thing in the morning if you plan to get up and run or jog. You’ll get a great boost of energy and put the fat burning power of your body into overdrive.

In closing, weight loss is a mathematical process. If you want to lose weight then you need to do it by the numbers whether you are counting calories or using the Points Plus Calculator by Weight Watchers.

Cheers!

Rex
