According to Google statistics there are 5400 people on average, per month, searching for Slim Fast reviews through their search engine. Here, again, we encounter the word fast in conjunction with weight loss and/or slimming down.
Now I’m not a health or fitness expert but I’ve done my homework when it comes to losing weight. I realize there are several programs and ideas when it comes to shedding the excess pounds but there universal truth concerning weight loss, if you talk to many trainers, is calories in, calories out.

While searching through many of the Slim Fast reviews that show up on Google and YouTube I found feedback from several people who followed the Slim Fast diet plan and got the results they were looking for. I also found feedback from people who didn’t get, from the product, what they wanted.
Slim Fast Reviews: The Facts
I’m not here to bash Slim Fast or others who have written Slim Fast reviews based on positive results. My objective is provide information based on experience and share what I have learned. Case in point…
In my last post I provided a link to a website called LiveStrong.com. Live Strong provides a free system for creating a diet profile. If you go to the website and click “start tracking” you’ll see submission form. Using this form the objective is to enter your current age, height, weight, weight loss goal and activity level. Once you have entered that information the system will calculate a diet plan for you that is based on caloric intake.
If you look at the image on the right you will see where I have entered my current numbers and daily activity. I work out five to six times per week and run a minimum of three miles per day plus I keep myself active helping my wife with the housework, taking care of my grandson, tending to the pets, etc.
In this example my goal is to lose 2 pounds per week. Once all of my information has been added then it’s time to click the big blue button. From there I’m taken to a page where my daily calorie intake number is generated as pictured below.
Based on what we have seen here let’s look at the Slim Fast diet plan. According to the Slim Fast website, the Slim Fast diet plan consists of a 3-2-1 system… Three snacks, two shakes and one regular meal customized to your taste for a total of six meals per day. Eating six times per day, according to most fitness experts, is ideal for fat burning and weight loss.
Based on what I found on the Slim Fast web site, three snack bars contain 23 grams of carbohydrate each and 9 grams of sugar. Eaten three times per day that would equal 69 grams of carbs and 21 grams of sugar totaling 600 calories.

Now let’s look at the shakes. Depending on the shake you choose they also average out around 200 calories each with another 25 grams of carbs and 18 grams of sugar each for a total of 400 calories.
So, our Slim Fast consumption, in one day would give us 1000 calories (units of energy) coming through 119 grams of carbs and 57 grams of sugar. Add in our meal for the day at 350 to 500 calories then, on the top end, we’re consuming 1500 calories per day. There aren’t too many people who won’t be able to lose weight fast on 1500 calories per day.
What you might find interesting here is that there are more calories in one Slim Fast snack bar then there is in a Twinkie. In fact, I could eat five Twinkies in one day, plus one meal and get less calories and carbs, and just slightly more sugar then I’m getting with the Slim Fast snack bars and shakes.
Again, I’m not here to slam Slim Fast but the numbers don’t lie. The bottom line is that all of the sugar and carbs aren’t necessarily good for you. You will lose more weight faster by sticking to a healthy diet of lean meats like fish and chicken breast, egg whites, oatmeal, brown rice, fruits and vegetables. If you like the shakes then try some of the protein shakes available today. Many of them are loaded with nutrients and have very little carbohydrate and sugar content.

The difference is, the convenience. Many people with a busy lifestyle like the idea of being able to grab a shake and go. I work a full time job, am a full time student and a single mother. Slim fast shakes are easy for me to grab out the door taking the kids to day care on my way to work and one during class, and eat dinner with my kids at night. it’s convenience.
