Loose Weight In 2012 The Special-K Way

What’s so special about Special K? Is it really all that? Will it do what they say it will do in regards to losing weight and fitting into those skinny, sexy jeans that have been eluding you for so long? Is it a food that you should incorporate into your diet if your objective is to lose weight and get in shape for the new year?

Regardless of the foods you choose, whether it’s Special K or P.B & J, Jillian Michaels (while working as a trainer on the hit TV show The Biggest Loser) said it best… “The universal truth of weight loss is calories in, calories out.” The truth is that if your ideal calorie intake for weight loss were 1700 calories per day then you could eat 1700 calories worth of Twinkies and still lose weight. That being said, that doesn’t mean it would be good for you.

As people approach the new year with a renewed interest in weight loss, as happens every year, they look to programs, services, food choices and a myriad of other things in their efforts to “re-create” themselves. Special K is no exception. Based on what I know about Special K I would say that, yes, Special K is certainly a wise and viable food option for those who are creating a calorie based diet plan.

Special K offers a wide variety of food choices from protein bars, to snack chips (which are really good) and cereal. But did I REALLY create this blog post for the purposes of pumping up a major corporation and their product Special K as a viable food option for you… of course not. As always, I have ulterior motives ;) !!

I chose the keyword Special K because I was amazed at how many searches there are, for Special K, on a monthly basis. I knew, based on these numbers, that this would be a good chance to connect with you and offer a couple of insights that will assist you with your weight loss goals for the new year.


Special K… great option for snacking if you have a hard time with the fruits and veggies. As long as you are staying within your daily calorie consumption based on your current body weight then you are good to go. However, in the beginning you may find that Special K leaves you hungry and desiring more food. While this is normal at first you must understand that much of what you feel, as hunger, is not necessarily the bodies need for food as fuel. It could also be thirst. This is why drinking plenty of water is very important. There’s nothing worse than FEELING hungry when you are trying to lose weight.  It sucks!

There is also another reason why that FEELING of hunger lingers. A big part of what you are feeling is Spiritual emptiness. Now before you grab the flame thrower and string me up as some wheelin’ and dealin’ jive talkin’ preachin’ man, take a moment to hear me out because I’m speaking from a place of experience, and from the heart.

When I started my weight loss journey, over three years ago now, I spent month after month craving food, especially late at night.  Protein bars like the Special K bars were a big help but there was still this lingering “NEED” (as I perceived it) to eat.  I was eating the right amount of food, I was eating the right foods to suppress my appetite, I was drinking plenty of water and doing everything I was supposed to do. But, for One reason, I still BELIEVED I was hungry.

This finally changed when I quit trying to do everything on my own, let go and let God. “I am totally confident in letting go and letting God appear as the abundant, all-sufficiency in my life, affairs and business.” This has become my mantra, so to speak. While I initially embraced this to change my financial situation, it didn’t take long to realize that it also worked for other things, like control of my appetite.

In the Gospels, there’s a story that tells of the disciples speaking with Jesus concerning food and hunger. In His reply, Jesus said that “I have food that you don’t know about.” He was speaking of Spiritual food (not Special K … sorry, I couldn’t resist).  He was speaking of His oneness, wholeness and completeness in God. When you have this connection with your Source, much of the hunger you feel will reside. You won’t be hungry anymore.  Any of the food you eat, including Special K, will be adequate and satisfying.

Is Special K The Better Way For You To Lose That Weight Today? It can be!

Remember, the food that you are eating, Special K or otherwise,  is adequate based on the numbers (calorie requirements). Your body only needs so much food to thrive on a daily basis. Too much and the body stores the excess and We become overweight. The key to breaking this cycle starts in the mind, in our connection with God and His all sufficiency in our life.

Today, take 15 minutes, go to a place where it’s quiet, sit upright in a chair, close your eyes and relax. Take this time to begin thanking God for the abundance provided and begin to envision the new you. If you experience racing thoughts that seem to distract you simply begin to envision yourself standing in front of a chalk board covered in meaningless words. Now envision yourself erasing those words until the racing thoughts subside. Understand that those thoughts racing through your head are meaningless and that true thought and connection with Mind and Source comes from the heart.  You must also realize that many of those out of control thoughts were the cause that created the effect of excess weight on our body as well.
