Weight loss success stories captivate the attention of people from all walks of life. People are intrigued by change and transformation and they prove it by tuning into The Biggest Loser, Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition and A & E’s Heavy.
As I stated in yesterdays post I believe that the majority of the people who tune into weight loss success stories (celebrity or otherwise) are people who feel the urge to make a change in their life.
Weight loss success stories trigger a desire to change in many people. They are the spark that has the potential to light a fire. That being said, with all of these transformations being shared through the weight loss success stories on TV, you can’t help but wonder why weight issues and obesity are still a huge problem?
Weight loss success stories are a spark, and only a spark. There are very few people who will find their desire and motivation to make a change based on the weight loss success stories of celebrities or people they don’t know. In order for those sparks to catch fire then the key component to weight loss success must be established before transformation can come. That key component is mindset.
I’ve said it before and will continue to say it so long as I have air in my lungs. If you get your mind right then your body will follow. The majority of people who try to lose weight, but fail to do so or lose weight and put it back on are, in most cases, people who did not do the mental and emotional work required.
It takes strength of mind and a weight loss mindset to find overall success. I participate in a few weight loss groups on Facebook and on My Fitness Pal where people share their struggles on a daily basis. The biggest issue people face when it comes to losing weight is addiction to food. The reasons why are simple:
- People who have become overweight have turned to food to deal with their negative emotions instead of dealing with them through the power of their mind (spiritually)
- Food has become a drug. It is the painkiller people turn to when they are feeling hurt, betrayed, angry, afraid, etc.
- Food is a huge temptation because of the high it generates.
Yes, certain things like chocolate cake taste great but if you think about it, what is the real reason your are eating food like that in abundance? Because you like the way it makes you feel. You think about food, the thought of eating leads you to believe that if you eat you will feel better. You eat, then feel better… but then comes the guilt. All of these emotions are products on a mind that is not in shape.
So what am I saying here? I’m saying that people who are overweight have become addicted to food in the same way they become addicted to alcohol, drugs and anything else that makes them FEEL a certain way.
The most popular weight loss success stories come from people who have made the transformation in their mind. They have worked through the addiction. They have confronted the pain, hurt and anguish that lead them to stack on the excess weight through over eating.
Thoughts become things. Your emotions and feelings directly correlate with what you are thinking. This is why weight loss success stories start in the mind. You must create your story. A great place to start is with affirmation. I know, most people believe that affirmations are cheesy and that they don’t work. That is not the case. Affirmations are a big part of getting your mind right so that your body will follow.
One of the best books ever written on mental fitness, in my opinion, is the Master Key System by Charles Haanel. This is a book that will guide you through the makeover process in your mind and assist you in the visualization that must take place in order to create your weight loss success story.
Taking action is the key to all success in life. Don’t wait until tomorrow, start creating your weight loss success story today so you can light the spark that will lead to change in the lives of others.
